March into Spring

March is upon us and it is packed full of fun. March is a time to feel rejuvenated after months of dreary, wet weather. The month is busy with activities and events like Pi Day, Daylight Savings, St. Patrick’s Day, and the First Day of Spring. The start of spring can give us the itch to spiff up our home and embrace the happy energy that comes with spring. There are many easy ways to update and change your home without spending a lot of time or breaking the bank.

 Shower with Flowers

Spring is a time of regrowth and birth. So many little baby animals are being born. We start to see baby bunnies hopping around and birds chirping. We also see tulips and flowers blooming and houses becoming showered with bright colors. An easy and cheap way to sprinkle a little bit of spring in the house is to make your indoor space mimic the outdoors. Dark colors may feel great for the fall, but the spring is a time for bright colors. Swap out the dark for some bouquets of fresh and colorful flowers. If you are in San Diego, you can stop by a local floral shop and build your own bouquet. Native Poppy is a local flower shop that grows seasonal flowers to help you build whimsical bouquets and arrangements. This is an easy way to decorate without spending a lot of money. If you’re like me, you may kill off every plant that you touch. Somehow every flower I touch ends up with some disease and dies off within days. Opting for a higher quality fake plant can add that pop of color without killing anything off. Moreover, these flowers can be used over and over again each year.

 Lots of Baskets

During the springtime we also tend to declutter with a little spring cleaning. We start to throw away and donate a lot of items in our house that we no longer have a need for. We start to think of new ways to organize things to reduce the amount of STUFF that we see lying around the house. An easy way to organize a space and create a chic vibe is by adding some baskets. Baskets can reduce the amount of clutter while tying together a space. They are an easy storage option that is also easily accessible. Baskets can be used to store all those comfy throw blankets. You can easily grab a comfy blanket and easily throw it back in once you are done. My favorite use is for dog toys. Man, oh man there are so many dog toys laying around. The dog takes them all out and leaves them around the living room in a little obstacle course. Throwing them into a basket is an effortless way to clean them all up at the end of his play time. It is also easily accessible for him to grab the toy that he wants.

 Light Up Your Space

Another cheap and easy way to update the house for spring is by changing lighting. Over the winter some of out light bulbs and fixture may have gotten worn out. Now is the time to change out all those flickering bulbs. Additionally, a quick DIY project on the weekend can be upgrading your lighting fixtures. Stop by a consignment shop and pick out a chandelier or lamp that will add some decoration and light up the space.

Upgrading your house for springtime does not need to break the bank or take forever. Shop at local consignment and thrift shops for some spring decorations.
